PRESS RELEASE
SHAKESPEARE MIAMI 2012
PRESS CONTACT:
COLLEEN STOVALL
PRODUCING ARTISTIC  DIRECTOR
MIAMISHAKES@GMAIL.COM

Shakespeare Miami presents:  A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Free Shakespeare in the Park - January 20 through February 4

Starring Sarah Jane Freidlich as Hermia and Bree-Anna Obst as Puck, Shakespeare
Miami brings free Shakespeare in the Park back to South Florida. Director Colleen
Stovall melds classical Shakespeare with slapstick humor in Shakespeare’s most
delightful story of love, power and magic.  Arguably his most accessible play,
Midsummer tells the tale of four young Athenian lovers and a group of hapless amateur
actors, who stray into an enchanted forest and are set upon by the mischievous fairies
that inhabit the forest.

“Modern audiences won’t settle for the old style Shakespeare where an actor stands in
one spot and spouts incomprehensible prose. “  Stovall says:  “We work to preserve the
poetry, and heightened language of Shakespeare, but we can’t let ourselves forget that
our job is to entertain.  This is a very funny play.  Unfortunately, audiences won’t get the
jokes if they cannot understand the words.  Our job is to make sure they will.“

“I’ve directed Midsummer four times and each time I find inspiration and new meaning in
the words.  Each time I find something new to laugh at, some new connection to my life
or to world events.  Shakespeare writes about the human condition, Love, loyalty, trust,
friendship, jealousy, greed, etc., which is the same today as it was 400 years ago.”
